The unique location of Fort Belan provides an ideal base for exploring and visiting the countless attractions which North Wales has to offer.
Choose from historical fortifications such as: Caernarfon Castle, Beaumaris and Conwy Castles and the Roman Segontium in Caernarfon. Travel on the Great Little Trains of Wales. Explore the unique and mysterious Llyn peninsular or ride into snowdonia, to the peak of Snowdon on the famous Snowdon Mountain Railway. Visit the awe inspiring Hydro Electric Mountain in Llanberis, see Museums, Zoos, Sea Life Centres, Woollen Mills, Potteries or Craft Shops. In this part of North Wales the list of attractions for visitors is endless.
Relaxing at the Fort Maybe relaxing in our pleasant sheltered courtyard or strolling along the miles of almost deserted beaches, or in the wildlife haven of the Foryd estuary would be appeal most to those seeking peace and tranquillity. It is very fine to end the day to relax on the battlements whilst enjoying the beautiful sunsets which are so often experienced at the Fort where the sun sets across the sea and towards Llandwin island, whilst to the east across the bay there are magnificent views of Snowdon and the mountain range of Snowdonia. Guests are able to feel at home in this friendly family owned and managed property and are able to enjoy the autonomy of the self catering holiday accomodation.
Music
Chamber music ensembles, small choirs and individual musicians are especially welcome. The four pianos are for serious use and are accommodated in spacious sitting rooms in Belan House, Tower House, Over-the-Way and By the Way.
Special arrangements can be made for use of the galleried Music Room, which seats approximately 80 and houses a Yamaha grand piano, a Yamaha keyboard and a small electronic organ.
Fishing
The beautiful beaches at Belan provide one of the best bass fishing shores in the country which feature in national angling guides. There are also many other species you can catch here and this may be enjoyed by Fort guests without seeking further permission. Non residents however must apply for a permit before coming to fish at Belan.
Swimming
Safe bathing may be enjoyed at Dinas Dinlle beach, the eastern end of very fine four mile stretch of sand. Bathing is not advised the Fort due to the strong currents of the straits.
Walking
Walks to suit all abilities and ages; coastal, country lane or mountain walking. We can recommend qualified guides.
Bird watching
The secluded and private Belan Peninsula is an ideal base for bird watching for individuals or groups. The Fort's 'Bird Pack', compiled with the help of the Wild fowl and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge and the British Trust for Ornithology, lists over 200 species spotted on the Belan Peninsula and Foryd Bay in recent years. The pack also includes maps and details of all the coastal Nature Reserves in North Wales.
Belan has its own bird hide on the dune lands over looking the bay.
Boating
Belan has wet and dry moorings in the bay and berthing in the unique Dock which is available generally on an annual basis. Arrangments however may be tailored for guests if negotiated in advance; for further information please contact the Dock Office via cjblundell1@aol.com Information is also available on boat trips which may be chartered to pick passengers up from the quay at Belan.
Flying
Caernarfon Airworld is an active airfield two miles away at the eastern end of the peninsula.
